Private driver Lyon → Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
Chamonix, Argentière or Les Houches, from Lyon or from Geneva Airport, 1 h 15 away. Yanis drops you at your chalet or hotel.
The route
Out of Lyon on the A42, then the A40 from Pont-d'Ain: Nantua, Bellegarde, south of Geneva, and the Arve valley through Bonneville, Cluses and Sallanches. At Le Fayet, the Route Blanche, the N205, takes over up to Chamonix, through Les Houches.
From Geneva Airport
About 90 km and 1 h 15 via the A40. Yanis waits for you at the exit with a sign bearing your name; keep your ID at hand for the border. The ride goes from Switzerland into France, so it is allowed.
Depending on departure time
On Saturdays in season the A40 gets busy between Geneva and Sallanches with holidaymakers heading for the other Haute-Savoie resorts. Setting off early, or arriving on another day, shortens the ride. For a flight out of Geneva, Yanis sets the pick-up time with a margin.
In winter
Winter tyres or chains are compulsory in the Haute-Savoie mountain communes from 1 November to 31 March; the car is equipped. Above Le Fayet, the Route Blanche gains several hundred metres over the Egratz viaduct, and lorries bound for the Mont Blanc Tunnel share the road.
Skis and luggage
Skis, snowboards, but also climbing packs or hiking gear: list what you are bringing. If there is any doubt about boot space, Yanis gets back to you before confirming.
Drop-off
Chamonix centre, Les Praz, Argentière and Le Tour further up the valley, or Les Houches at the entrance: give the exact address. Vallorcine, beyond the Col des Montets, is served when the road is open, which is not always the case in winter because of avalanche risk.
Questions
Can you pick me up at Geneva Airport?
Yes, give your flight number: Yanis tracks the landing and drives you to Chamonix, about 1 h 15 away.
And take me back to Saint-Exupéry for my return flight?
Yes. Yanis works out the departure time from Chamonix with the margin needed before your flight and gives it to you in the quote.
Do you do rides within Switzerland?
No, only between France and Switzerland. Geneva Airport to Chamonix is fine; a ride between two Swiss towns is not.
