French resorts yes, Swiss resorts no
Yanis is a private-hire driver licensed in France. He can pick you up at Geneva Airport and drive you to a French resort, then make the return trip at the end of your stay. Rides within Switzerland are not allowed: Verbier, Zermatt or Crans-Montana are not possible, nor is a ride from the airport to a hotel in Geneva.
The Portes du Soleil ski area straddles the border: Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz and Châtel are in France, Champéry and Morgins in Switzerland. Only the French villages can be served.
On arrival: terminals and the French sector
Geneva Airport has a French sector, reached by the customs road from Ferney-Voltaire, the only road access to that sector. Flights from France arrive there directly, and you can leave on either the French or the Swiss side.
After an international flight, you cannot exit straight into France: you collect your bags, go through Swiss customs, go up to the check-in level and follow the “France Sector” signs. Only passengers holding a plane ticket for that day, give or take one day, can move between the two sectors.
Some winter ski flights arrive at Terminal 2, a small seasonal terminal separate from the main one, open only at weekends in winter. Give your terminal in the request: Yanis tells you the meeting point before you land.
Border: documents and customs
Switzerland is in the Schengen area, but police or customs checks are still possible at the border. Every passenger, children included, needs a valid ID card or passport, plus a visa or residence permit if their nationality requires one.
Switzerland is not in the European Union: when you enter France, French customs allowances apply to goods bought in Switzerland, alcohol and tobacco in particular.
Saturdays
Many resort rentals run Saturday to Saturday. On that day the airport handles a large number of skier flights and the roads to the valleys are busy in both directions. During the winter holidays, Bison Futé, the French traffic forecast service, often rates the day orange or red in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
The times in the table can then grow considerably, especially towards the Tarentaise. An early-morning flight, or arriving on another day if your rental allows it, saves time. For the return, Yanis sets the departure time around your flight with a margin.
Winter tyres, chains and snow
From 1 November to 31 March, winter tyres or chains are compulsory in the mountain areas set by each prefecture, including the roads up to the resorts. Yanis's Kia Sportage hybrid has winter tyres.
On snowy days the climb takes longer, and chains can be required on some resort roads. Yanis keeps an eye on the weather and lets you know if the departure time needs to be brought forward.
Skis and luggage
List the number of suitcases, bags and pairs of skis or snowboards in your request. Many holidaymakers rent their gear in the resort, which leaves the boot for suitcases.
For a group with a lot of gear, Yanis tells you before confirming what fits in the boot. Remember to give:
- Your flight number and arrival time
- The terminal, T1 or T2, if you know it
- The exact address of your accommodation in the resort
- The number of passengers, suitcases, pairs of skis and child seats
Coach or private driver
Coaches also run from Geneva Airport to the French resorts. According to Altibus, a daily line serves the Tarentaise stations and resorts (Moûtiers, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Méribel, Courchevel, Tignes, Val d'Isère and others) from 18 December 2026 to 27 March 2027, and a weekend line runs to Les Carroz and Flaine from 12 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
With a private driver, you leave as soon as you come out, without waiting for other passengers, and you are dropped at your accommodation. With your flight number, Yanis tracks the actual landing and waits for you at arrivals with a sign bearing your name.
Rides are booked in advance, through the form, by phone or by WhatsApp. The price is fixed by quote, valid for 48 hours, and paid on board by card or cash; cancellation is free up to 24 hours before each leg.
Questions
Can you drive me to Verbier or Zermatt?
No. Those resorts are in Switzerland, and a French private-hire driver cannot make rides within Switzerland. French resorts are possible, from La Clusaz to Tignes.
My flight is delayed, what happens?
With your flight number, Yanis tracks the actual landing time and adjusts the pick-up.
What documents do I need for the border?
A valid ID card or passport for each passenger, children included, plus a visa or residence permit if your nationality requires one.
Is a stop on the way possible?
Yes, for a break or some shopping before you reach your accommodation. Mention it in the request so the time is allowed for.
When should I leave the resort for a Saturday flight?
Allow the time in the table, a margin for Saturday traffic and the time your airline asks for before the flight. Yanis suggests a departure time with the quote.
